UNICOM Seminars Ltd & OptiRisk Systems is
one of the only UK
training providers offering staged and weekend FRM revision sessions in
the London area. It is the only course led by a trainer who has himself
passed the FRM examination and has worked with GARP setting some of the
examination questions.
The course offered
comprises the FRM Primer (a series of lectures and discussion sessions)
and the FRM Clinic, a full-day revision clinic. The Primer is split
into 6, full-day tutorial modules, each covering a different topic of
the course. These tutorials follow a flexible - but well-defined -
syllabus covering most of the FRM curriculum. The modules take place on
Saturdays from 09:00 - 17:00 in Uxbridge, West London, near Brunel
University.
In addition, Tuesday evenings from
18:00 - 21:00 may be used for practicing examination questions and, if
necessary, further coverage of topics covered on the Saturday sessions.
These sessions will be held in the City - close to Moorgate tube
station.
There is also a full day FRM full-day
Clinic held on a Saturday, 2 weeks before the FRM examination. This
allows delegates to undertake a relatively realistic "mock" FRM
examination some time before the real one and thus avoid the pre-exam
stress.
Delegates receive an extensive reading list
and pre-course material. They also complete a pre-course "diagnostic"
to ensure they get the most out of the course.
Building on experience gleaned from previous years
of the FRM training, we have restruc-tured several aspects of the
course to deliver the maximum benefit to delegates. Remem-ber, we want
to give delegates every chance to achieve success in the FRM
examination! The course will now embrace a flexible, but well-defined,
syllabus covering most of the FRM curriculum. (Topics that will not be
covered are those which require dedicated, rote learning-such as the
Legal, Accounting and Ethics sections.) Initially, delegates will be
asked to complete a short (25 questions), pre-course, multiple choice,
self-diagnostic test and send the results back to us. From these we
will be able to assess areas of weakness or confusion and will adapt
the course such that we concentrate more of our efforts and re-sources
on those specific topics. The lectures take place over 6 Saturdays. If
there is suffi-cient interest - additional, short (3 hour), evening
sessions (on 6 Tuesdays) will be arranged - during which examination
questions will be practised and any more in-depth questions, not
covered in sufficient detail in the Saturday sessions, may be
addressed.
Before the course begins, we will provide
suggested readings from the prescribed Jorion textbook, as well as
popular study guides such as Schweser and Bionic Turtle. Delegates are
strongly advised to read these thoroughly and work through them before
the topics are pre-sented as it is impossible to cover all of risk
management in short course.
Finally, the 8-hour Saturday FRM Clinic will now
be held two weeks before the FRM exami-nation rather than the
traditional one week prior. This will allow delegates to undertake a
relatively realistic 'mock' FRM examination some time before the real
one and thus avoid the pre-exam stress experienced in previous years.
