This three-day course introduces systems and software engineering managers and practitioners, appraisal team members, and engineering process group (e.g., SEPG, EPG) members to CMMI® fundamental concepts. CMMI models are tools that help organizations improve their ability to develop and maintain quality products and services. CMMI models are an integration of best practices from proven discipline-specific process improvement models, including the CMM® for Software, EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Development CMM.

Background and Objectives

The Software Engineering Institute has now published a new generation of maturity model, the CMMI. It will progressively replace the existing SW-CMM. CMMI covers a broader domain since it addresses not only software but also system aspects. It is also published in 2 representations: "staged" (like SW-CMM®) or "continuous" (as required by the emerging standard ISO15504, as a result of the SPICE project).

The expertise on CMMI is still rare because the transition to CMMI is recent. You now have access here, in your area, to an expertise that is authorized by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) without having to travel to the SEI in Pittsburgh, USA.

Participants will become familiar with the concepts and content of CMMI. The emphasis is on each process area in this model and on goals and practices associated with each; they will also be able to make appropriate judgments on how an organisation satisfies any of the process areas of the CMMI. This course also helps to identify where improvement should happen, using the structure and the preferred path suggested by the CMMI.

This course is presented by QAI and it is a PREREQUISITE for the "CMMI Intermediate" course provided exclusively by the SEI.

Who should attend this Course?

The software and the system communities
A manager or practitioner involved in the development or maintenance of solutions based on some software components
A future CMMI assessment team member
A member of a group responsible for an engineering process group, responsible for coordinating improvement
Any software or system engineer interested in improving quality, productivity or competitiveness through a process approach
Benefits of the Course

Understand the benefits of defining an organisation's processes
Learn about the internal CMMI structure, the concepts and the terminology
Understand the possible use of CMMI for the software and/or the system (operations and support) departments
Be able to interpret the CMMI properly, essential for those who will be involved as Team Members or Lead Assessors in CMMI assessments
